If you get gel manicures, you’ve probably heard of Rubber Base and Builder Gel. Both are used to make nails stronger, but they are not the same.
1. What is Rubber Base
Rubber Base is a thick, flexible base coat. It has a rubber-like feel when cured.
Best for: Natural nails, short nails, or people with weak, peeling nails.
Benefit: It adds flexibility so gel does not crack or lift.
2. What is Builder Gel
Builder Gel is thicker than rubber base. It is used to build length, shape, and structure.
Best for: Growing length, fixing broken nails, or creating an apex for strength.
Benefit: It is strong and hard. It does not bend like rubber base.
3. Strength vs Flexibility
Rubber Base: Flexible. Moves with your nail. Less chance of cracking.
Builder Gel: Rigid and strong. Holds shape and length. Better for extensions.
4. Application and removal
Both need an LED lamp to cure.
Both must be soaked off by a professional. Do not peel.
Which one should you choose:
If your nails are soft and you just want gel to last longer, ask for Rubber Base.
If you want length, structure, or to stop nails from bending, ask for Builder Gel.
